The Return of Alejandro Amezquita: A New Chapter for the Peregrinos

Rincón, PR — The Puerto Rico Collegiate Summer Baseball League (PRCSBL) proudly announces the return of Alejandro Amezquita as the Manager of the Peregrinos for the 2026 season. A leader with international experience, an inspiring story, and a clear vision for shaping the future of young athletes, Amezquita embodies the kind of coach who aligns perfectly with the league’s mission. His return not only strengthens the continuity of a solid project but also brings back a figure whose leadership, character, and passion for player development make him the ideal person to guide athletes on their path to the next level.
Amezquita made an immediate impact on the PRCSBL last year. His role went far beyond that of a traditional assistant: he worked daily with pitchers and position players, led instructional sessions, supported practices, facilitated early workouts, and ultimately finished the season as the Peregrinos’ interim Manager. The effect was undeniable. Players connected with his energy, humility, and ability to teach in a clear, direct, and motivating way. To many, he became a trusted mentor—someone who knew when to push, when to listen, and when to inspire.
But Amezquita’s story begins long before arriving in Puerto Rico. His athletic career is a testament to hard work, national pride, and the power of believing in oneself even when few others do. In 2012, as a young boy, he represented Guatemala in the Little League World Series, where he was named Most Valuable Pitcher. That moment marked the beginning of a journey that led him to compete in multiple events within the Olympic cycle, including the Central American and Caribbean Games and the Central American Games in Costa Rica, Mexico, Nicaragua, and Guatemala. Few athletes can say they have worn their country’s jersey across so many international stages for so many consecutive years.
His professional career has also been diverse and rich in experience. Amezquita has played in the Nicaraguan Professional League with the Tigres de Chinandega, in the Pecos League with the Alpine Cowboys, and currently continues his career in Europe with the Caribeños in Germany’s Bundesliga. Each country, league, culture, and challenge has shaped him into a more complete athlete and a more insightful coach.
As a coach, Amezquita has dedicated years to developing pitchers. He currently serves as the Pitching Coach at Bethany College (NAIA), where he works with collegiate pitchers on mechanics, strength development, performance adjustments, and mental preparation. He also served as a professional Pitching Coach with the Alpine Cowboys in 2023 and 2024, preparing athletes striving to reach—or stay at—the professional level. His arrival at the PRCSBL was recommended by Juan Berger, Latin America Director of the National Pitching Association (Tom House), one of the most respected pitching development institutions in the United States.
Amezquita brings not only technical knowledge but also a deep understanding of what baseball means in a player’s life. He explains it himself with clarity:
“My goal is simple: help players compete, grow, and believe in themselves. I want the Peregrinos to be a team where athletes feel supported, challenged, and motivated. Baseball is part of Puerto Rico’s culture, and I’m ready to build something special here.”
His return as Manager comes at the perfect moment. The 2026 season is shaping up to be one of the league’s most competitive and exciting editions, bringing together college players and recently graduated high school prospects from the United States, Puerto Rico, Latin America, the Caribbean, and beyond. Many arrive seeking opportunity. Others seek development. Some want to prove what they are capable of. Alejandro understands each of those stories—because he has lived that journey himself.
With his appointment, the official construction of the 24-man roster for the 2026 Peregrinos begins. Amezquita already knows the type of player he wants to bring in: young athletes who are hungry to improve, eager to learn, responsible, disciplined, and willing to embrace the process of growth.

The PRCSBL begins a new chapter in June. And with Alejandro Amezquita at the helm, the Peregrinos enter the upcoming season with a leader who understands the field, respects the process, and knows how to inspire a generation of athletes who want to compete, develop, and pursue something bigger than the game itself.
